About this list
Most Ruhr clubs with a junior section train their youngest players in the hour or two before the adults' club night, so the youth session usually starts in the late afternoon of the club's main weekday. Schachverein Wattenscheid trains its youth on Friday evenings, DJK Ewaldi Aplerbeck splits Monday into a children's hour, a juniors' hour and the adults' evening, and Schachfreunde Brackel in Dortmund holds youth sessions on two weekdays.
A few clubs also train on Saturdays, such as the Oberhausener Schachverein 1887 on Saturday mornings and Sportfreunde Schnee in Witten, whose children meet once or twice a month in a parish hall. Several clubs run youth tournaments as well, which appear under the tournament list. Whether a child can simply come along to a first session, and what the club charges, is rarely written down; the entry says so where a page states it.
