Clubs that meet on Friday 42

Friday is the Ruhr's chess night. Far more clubs meet on this evening than on any other, from Xanten, Wesel and Rheinhausen in the west through Oberhausen, Bottrop and Gelsenkirchen-Buer to Bochum, Herne, Unna and Kamen in the east. A typical Friday starts in the late afternoon with the children and juniors and turns into the adults' club night later in the evening, as at Schachverein Wattenscheid, Schachverein Hattingen or Unser Fritz in Wanne-Eickel, which plays in the parish centre of St. Barbara.

Some clubs keep the room for most of the day. Schachclub Scharnhorst 2002 in Dortmund meets from the afternoon until late at a municipal meeting centre, for beginners and experienced players alike, and Schachgemeinschaft Ennepe-Ruhr-Süd in Schwelm plays until midnight. The Bahn-Schachklub Weiße Dame Wedau-Bissingheim in Duisburg spends its Friday in the guest room of a former church.
