About this list

Over the board, the Ruhr plays mostly at its clubs. Club nights are the most reliable place for a game, and some clubs say outright that visitors are welcome, among them Schachclub Hansa in Dortmund, SV Rochade Eving and the Listiger Bauer in Essen-West. The tournaments of the region, from youth opens to town championships and the August festival in Dortmund, are listed here too, because most of them are opens that take players from any club or none.

Beyond the clubs, the city of Dortmund runs chess in its municipal meeting centres: a weekly chess meeting in Berghofen and an evening of chess, Skat and Doppelkopf in Mengede once a month. In Mülheim the Dümpten school and district library hosts a board-game afternoon with chess and Go. Choose a town below to see what it has.
